The Bed and Breakfast "Sebastiano, the mallard e the bag" is situated on foothills of the Alps, in the beautiful background of left Piave. Near Belluno, exactly in Mel’s municipality. It’s about 550 mt. over the sea, among forests and meadows, along the ancient roman road called "Claudia Augusta Altinate". This road was the link between lagoon of Venice and the river Danube, over the Alps. At only 1 km. from our house there is Zumelle’s Castle, that when the Romans buit this road was an important check point and stage. The real castle was built in the 7th century A.D. Mel, a beautiful town, is only 7 km. far away: it’s square, with palaces of the XVIth century, is really a place that you can’t miss.
In Mel and it’s many hamlets there are several rural buildings, churchs and bell towers, made of stones. If you go in direction of the mountains over our house, you’ll arrive in Praderadego, birthplace of cranberries, and Zelant, place of beautiful narcissus’s flowering. Praderadego’s pass is the door to Venice’s plain. From Col de Moi you can see far away until lagoon of Venice and Adriatic sea. From Zelant you’ll see Nevegal, Valmorel and S. Boldo’s pass in a beautiful background of hills and forests. S. Boldo’s pass is another way to get to plain.This road was built by Austrians during the first world war, in only a hundred days, trying to get to Italian troops after Caporetto’s battle, won by Austrians. If you’ll have possibility to read road’s history, you’ll understand that this is an extraordinary human work.
Coming back to Trichiana from S. Boldo, you’ll find the "Brent de l’Art", several gorges along stream Ardo. These gorges become really spectacular during winter season, when ice’s cascades cover rock faces. Very similar gorges you can find along streams Terche and Maor, under our house. These streams run around Zumelle’s Castle, making it an impregnable place. In fact, standing at the legend, it was conquered only because some soldiers betrayed the count. If you like walking or cycling through forests in silence, here you’ll find many possibilities. Nature is beautiful and intact. Here live a lot of animals: roe deer, deer, badger, hare, fox, squirrel, woodpecker, jay, loir, many raptors like buzzard. 
If you like winter sports, near our house there are many place where you can ski: for example Nevegal and Monte Avena, only 20 km. far from here. Feltre and Belluno two beautiful little towns, with their historical centers, full of ancient palaces, are reachable in a few minutes. But many others places full of arts and history are not so far from our B&B: Follina and Cison di Valmarino, Vittorio Veneto and Conegliano, Treviso and Bassano del Grappa, Asolo and Montebelluna. The last but not least place I want to remember is Valbelluna with its peaks (Tomatico, Avena, Pizzocco, Serva, Vette Feltrine) and where river Piave runs with its clean and cold water. In summer it is a beautiful place where you can dip. Along the river there are many cyclable roads. Finally we mention Valmorel, the park of the Dolomites of Belluno, houses in the country, mountain refuges, shepherd’s hut and people’s hospitality.
